Quartszite for President's Day
« on: January 28 , 2010, 06:56:45 AM »
Planning a trip to Quartszite for President's Day weekend. You are invited!

Thinking of camping South of town and east of Hwy 95 which would give much closer access to the Kofa Wildlife Refuge.
Opinions and other suggestions welcome.

We'll be there, too.  There is also a free BLM camping area (just need to register with the campground host) called Roadrunner.  Go south of town on Hwy 95 six miles to Mile Marker 99, turn right on LaPaz Valley Road then turn right into Roadrunner Non-fee camping area.  It is on the corner of Hwy 95 and LaPaz Valley Road.  We know this area is clean, level and easy to get our motorhome into (no dips, etc.).

We are planning on going. Some other folks will be coming too,( Don & Stephanie) and some friends of theirs. Is there cell phone service there? Looking forward to some riding.

Not crazy about campgrounds cuz of rules, restrictions, crowding, blacktop, concrete, etc., etc.
But I'm in with whatever everyone wants to do. I need to insert a smiley here, but my phone won't do it.

Roadrunner is not a campground.  It is a BLM Non-fee camping area, no concrete, no asphalt -- it is just like Dome Rock BLM Non-fee camping area where we all camped last January.  We were supposed to register with the campground or should I say camping area host there on Dome Rock Road but we didn't know it at the time.  We can park in a "circle your wagons" like we did at Dome Rock.  Since Roadrunner is not behind that big hill from Quartzsite like Dome Rock was we get cell phone service there.  Besides we don't think you can camp just anywhere you want to in that Quartzsite area -- you gotta be on a BLM designated camping area.

OK then, I stand corrected. Let's give it a shot, as long as we can do the campfire  ;)  It's for sure a lot closer to all the riding.

Yes, we're for camping at Roadrunner instead of Dome Rock.  How about Rrino, Camorhino and others that are going to Quartzsite for President's Day -- would they consider camping at Roadrunner instead of Dome Rock?

Could  someone/everyone please remind Skypilot to pick one of those back rests for my car?  Thanks.
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone.

There was cell service at Roadrunner in '07 when we camped there.  You can see the towers on a mountain from Roadrunner.

-Hey....azatvr-

You OK with this?  Been by Roadrunner several times.  It's open camping, just a "designated" camping area.

Just went on the Quartzsite Chamber of Commerce web site.  You can click on a location map of the BLM camping areas. Roadrunner is shown in green south of La Posa Long Term.   Lots of events still in town including Quilt Show, etc. and on Saturday, the 13th, there is a pancake breakfast at the fire station and also on the 13th is the 4th Annual ATV Parade which they try to break the world record of the number of ATV's participating.  We probably won't go into town for these but posting them in case anyone is interested.  We plan on arriving Friday, the 12th.  When can you all arrive?
